If you do it on your iPhone, you will not need to do it on your mac and vice versa. As your iCal calendars between your iPhone and your mac are automatically synchronised (through iCloud). 

Steps to make your Google calendar as default on iPhone

This is the two steps you need to follow to make your Google calendar as default calendar on iPhone :

Choose a calendar account to add on iCal calendar on iPhone

By default, your Google calendar is not added to your native iCal calendar on iPhone. By default, you only have access to iCloud calendars.

To add other calendar accounts, click on the “Settings” icon on your iPhone. Then, click on the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” button.

In your “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” settings, you’ll see the accounts that are already linked to your iPhone. To add an account, click on the “Add Account” button at the end of the list of your synchronised accounts.

Sync your Gmail account with your iPhone 

Your iPhone lets you add a large range of calendar accounts. You can choose to add an iCloud account, an Exchange account, a Google account, a Yahoo account, an AOL account or an Outlook.com account.  In our case, we want to add a Google account. Just click on the “Google” icon.

Then, you will need to enter your name, email, password and description of your Google account. The description is there to easily identify your account if you have a long list of accounts added to your iCloud calendar application on your iPhone.

In our case, you can just let as a description the Gmail account you just connected.

On your iPhone, for each account that you are added, you are suggested to synchronise your emails, your contacts, your calendars and your notes. In our case, we suggest that you only keep your calendars synced. But if you want to be able to manage your emails from the iPhone mail native application or your Google contacts from the native contact application, set the option on “On”.

2. Set your Google calendar as default calendar on iPhone

Once you have clicked on “Save”, your Google calendar account is added to the calendar accounts managed on your iPhone.

You can select which of your calendars you want to display in the iCal application on your iPhone. Click on the red tick mark to unselect or select a calendar.

Now, you need to go back to your iPhone settings (by clicking on the “Settings” icon). Once again, click on the “Mail, Contacts, Calendars” category. And scroll down until you reach the Default Calendar category.

By default, your default calendar is set to one of your iCloud calendars on iPhone. But on clicking on the arrow, you can select which of your calendars you want to set as default calendar on iPhone. In our case, just select your preferred Google account we just added. You’re done!

Create an event from your calendar on iPhone and check synchronisation with your Google calendar account

Now, you just need to check if everything is working properly. First, open Google calendar on your desktop, create an event and go to your iCloud calendar application on iPhone to check if the event you just created is displayed.

Then, create an event from your calendar on iPhone and check on your desktop that it was added to Google calendar.
